3D CREATURE & CHARACTER MODELER

High-End Visual Effects | Feature Film & Episodic

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're on the hunt for an experienced3D Creature & Character Modeler to join our client's award-winning VFX team.

If you have proven, production based VFX Creature / Character Modeling experience, we want to hear from you.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Create high-quality hero creature and character models for feature film, episodic, and commercial VFX pipelines
  • Sculpt organic and hard-surface assets using ZBrush, Maya, and Houdini — with meticulous attention to anatomy and silhouette
  • Build clean, deformation-friendly topology optimised for rigging and animation
  • Collaborate closely with Concept Art, Rigging, CFX, and Lookdev to ensure assets meet production requirements
  • Retopologise and optimise high-resolution sculpts for downstream departments
  • Produce and maintain accurate UV layouts and clean asset naming conventions
  • Participate in review sessions and implement feedback quickly and accurately


TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY

  • Sculpting & Modelling: ZBrush, Maya, Blender, Mudbox
  • Rigging Awareness: Understanding of joint placement, deformation zones, and blend shapes
  • Procedural / FX: Houdini (advantageous for creature simulations)
  • Lookdev Handoff: Substance Painter / Designer, Arnold, or equivalent renderers
  • Pipeline & Versioning: Shotgrid / Shotgun, Perforce or Git-LFS


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven creature or character modelling experience in a professional VFX, games, or animation studio
  • A showreel that demonstrates exceptional organic sculpting ability and anatomical understanding
  • Strong knowledge of real-world creature anatomy — vertebrate and invertebrate
  • Experience working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment
  • Solid communication skills and a collaborative, can-do attitude
  • Bonus: Experience with photogrammetry, 3D scanning pipelines, or creature R&D


NICE TO HAVE

  • Film or episodic credits on IMDb
  • Knowledge of grooming tools (Yeti, XGen, or Ornatrix)
  • Background in traditional sculpture, illustration, or life drawing
  • Experience with real-time pipelines (Unreal Engine / USD workflows)
