Role Overview
We are seeking a Roto / Paint Artist to join our VFX team, with strong hands-on experience in Nuke as the primary tool for roto and paint work. You will support film, episodic, and commercial projects by delivering clean, accurate mattes and high-quality paint fixes that integrate seamlessly into the compositing pipeline.
This role requires a detail-oriented artist who understands motion, form, and edge behaviour, and who can work efficiently within a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality rotoscoping using Nuke for characters, props, and environments
- Perform paint work in Nuke, including:
- Wire and rig removal
- Clean plate creation
- Beauty and set clean-ups
- Build and maintain clean, well-organised Nuke scripts, following studio standards
- Ensure work meets technical, creative, and delivery requirements
- Implement feedback efficiently and maintain consistency across sequences
- Collaborate closely with Compositors, Leads, and Supervisors
- Track and manage tasks using production tools such as ShotGrid or ftrack
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Roto / Paint Artist in a VFX production environment
- Strong proficiency in Nuke (essential)
- Solid understanding of:
- Edge fidelity and motion blur
- Organic and hard-surface roto techniques
- Paint workflows and patching strategies
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality under deadlines
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Silhouette or other dedicated roto tools
- Basic compositing knowledge within Nuke
- Familiarity with ACES or colour-managed pipelines
- Experience working in a structured VFX pipeline
