The Opportunity

An established specialist pumping business is looking for an experienced Inside Sales / Applications Engineer to join its

team at its Peterborough branch.

This is an opportunity to combine technical engineering knowledge with commercial responsibility, helping customers

identify the right pumping solutions for their specific applications. You will work closely with customers, suppliers and the

wider sales team, interpreting technical requirements, selecting suitable equipment and preparing quotations and

proposals.

The role will suit someone who understands pump technology and enjoys solving engineering problems, building

customer relationships and contributing to business growth. You will play an important role in ensuring customers

receive the right solution, backed by strong technical expertise and after-sales support.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical and commercial support across the company's pump product portfolio.

• Assess customer requirements and recommend suitable pump solutions based on application, performance and

operating conditions.

• Support pump selection across applications including water and wastewater, industrial processing, food production and

construction.

• Interpret technical specifications, performance curves, drawings and datasheets to ensure equipment meets customer

requirements.

• Prepare quotations, technical proposals and supporting documentation.

• Respond to incoming enquiries, providing accurate technical advice and commercially competitive solutions.

• Liaise with pump manufacturers, suppliers and internal colleagues to resolve technical queries and identify appropriate

products.

• Work alongside external sales colleagues to develop existing accounts and identify new commercial opportunities.

• Support customers with product information, troubleshooting queries and spare parts requirements where appropriate.

• Develop an understanding of customer applications, helping deliver reliable and cost-effective pumping solutions.

• Build strong relationships with customers and support the business in delivering a high standard of service.

About You

• Previous experience in pump applications, pump engineering, technical sales or a similar engineering-focused role.

• A good understanding of industrial pumps, ideally including centrifugal pumps and associated pumping systems.

• Experience interpreting technical specifications and selecting equipment to suit specific applications.

• Comfortable preparing quotations and providing technical support throughout the sales process.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with both technical and commercial stakeholders.

• A customer-focused, solutions-driven approach, with an appreciation of the commercial side of engineering.

• Organised, proactive and comfortable working as part of a close-knit team.

Candidates with experience in pump distribution, OEMs, water and wastewater equipment or industrial fluid handling

would be particularly relevant.
