Quantity or Senior Surveyor – Water Civil Engineering Projects



About the role


We’re seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a friendly, collaborative commercial team delivering water and wastewater projects. You’ll ensure accurate measurement, valuation and cash-flow management across allocated schemes, maintaining robust financial control and contractual compliance to support safe, timely and profitable delivery.


Key responsibilities


  • Prepare and submit interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Procure subcontractors in line with programme and company policy (competency checks, recommendations, orders, warranties), including pre-order meetings.
  • Administer subcontracts (progress meetings, delay evaluation, variations, dayworks, notices, damages, defects, waste control).
  • Assess and certify timely, accurate payments to subcontractors, including payment and pay-less notices and any contra-charges.
  • Agree subcontract final accounts.
  • Measure quantities from site and drawings as required.
  • Value and track variations promptly; maintain a live register.
  • Support weekly direct labour and plant/subcontract payments where required.
  • Control material costs and mitigate waste.
  • Produce internal valuations, subcontract liabilities and CVRs to the commercial reporting timetable.
  • Work closely with the Site Manager and wider delivery team to monitor progress, margins and monthly cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Keep high-quality records (correspondence, site diaries, notices, evidence).
  • Identify and notify delays in accordance with the contract, escalating with your QS line manager where appropriate.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews and internal/external progress meetings.


Note: Responsibilities may vary from time to time in line with the needs of the business.


Qualifications & experience


  • Relevant degree/HND (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience in the Water Industry, for example:
  • Potable & wastewater treatment processes
  • Water storage and conveyance
  • MEICA
  • ICA & SCADA
  • Environmental considerations and flood risk/mitigation
  • Experience working on sector frameworks and design & construct schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC target cost contracts and associated procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with common CDE/extranet and electronic project management systems.
  • Sound understanding of project planning interfaces.

Other: Valid UK driving licence.
