Site Supervisor – Civil Engineering / Water Infrastructure

Yorkshire & North Midlands

Permanent PAYE

The company

Our client is an established civil engineering contractor with a strong regional presence and a substantial long-term workload across Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.

The business operates across a broad range of civil engineering sectors including water and wastewater infrastructure, highways and infrastructure, public realm, environmental works, marine, river and coastal engineering and minor works.

For this particular position, the emphasis is firmly on water and wastewater infrastructure. The contractor is delivering a long-term programme of work through the AMP framework, providing good continuity of employment and a varied pipeline of technically interesting civil engineering projects.

Typical schemes involve deep drainage, pipelines, ducting, underground tanks, reinforced concrete structures, chambers, shafts and associated infrastructure. Work can include both clean and wastewater environments, treatment works, sewerage infrastructure, pumping and storage assets and wider civils packages associated with water infrastructure.

Projects are predominantly across Yorkshire with some work extending into the North Midlands. This is regional employment rather than a working-away position: you will be home every night, with travel generally kept to around an hour. Being centrally located within Yorkshire would therefore be advantageous, although it is not essential.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Site Supervisor capable of taking ownership of the day-to-day delivery of civil engineering works on site. You will organise the workforce and resources, maintain standards and ensure works are being delivered safely, correctly and in line with programme.

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for driving site activities and maintaining progress against programme.
  • Plan, manage and organise direct labour and subcontractors on site.
  • Brief the workforce, review RAMS and ensure gangs understand and comply with the agreed methods of working.
  • Ensure permits are correctly issued, understood and complied with.
  • Maintain high health, safety and environmental standards and ensure the site remains safe, organised and presentable.
  • Manage quality and compliance in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
  • Organise labour, plant and materials efficiently and coordinate deliveries and material call-offs.
  • Maintain site diaries, registers and other required project records.
  • Review and approve timesheets, holidays and absence for direct labour where required.
  • Manage materials and waste effectively and help minimise unnecessary cost or wastage.
  • Maintain strong communication with the Project Manager, engineers, subcontractors and site workforce.
  • Identify and escalate technical, safety, quality, commercial or programme issues before they impact delivery.
  • Ensure lifting operations are properly planned, supervised and undertaken in accordance with relevant requirements.
  • Represent the contractor professionally and protect the company's interests throughout the delivery of the project.

About You

You will need a solid background in general civil engineering and previous experience supervising site-based works. Experience within water, wastewater or sewage treatment environments would be particularly relevant, although candidates from strong general civils backgrounds will also be considered.

The role requires someone who can manage a site rather than simply oversee it: organised, methodical and capable of planning ahead, solving problems and keeping the workforce moving safely towards programme.

  • Previous Site Supervisor experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or groundworks.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • SEATS.
  • First Aid.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS).
  • Lifting Supervisor qualification.
  • CSCS Card
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Competent reviewing RAMS, method statements, permits and site documentation.
  • Good technical understanding of civil engineering construction.
  • Computer literate and comfortable using Office 365 and electronic site records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with good commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.

Salary is up to low £50,000's depending on experience + Van or Car Allowance

The position is permanent PAYE employment with a well-established contractor offering long-term regional work. Projects will primarily be located throughout Yorkshire with some coverage into the North Midlands. The intention is that employees remain regional, are home every night and generally travel no more than around an hour to site.
