Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity (Permanent) — Teesside Based


Groundworks, roads & sewers, plot works, earthworks | Residential (private & social housing infra)


Location: 100% office-based in Teesside with occasional site visits (regional).

Package: Competitive salary + annual bonus + company car (Audi A3 or similar grade) + 26 days’ holiday + bank holidays, pension, laptop/phone.

The Company


An established groundworks & civil engineering contractor supporting major housebuilders across the North East and Teesside. Established in 1984, the business turns over c.£55m p.a. with a core head-office team of ~30 (commercial, payroll, etc.), ~200 directly employed site staff and ~200 subcontractors. Typical clients include Barratt, Story Homes, Taylor Wimpey, Esh Living, Keepmoat, Mandale Homes, and Gentoo. At any given time the company runs c.24 live schemes (generally 4–5 sites per client) across a footprint from South Marske down to Morpeth/Ashington (≈1 hour radius).


Core works: roads & sewers, plot works and small earthworks (for major earthworks packages the business partners with recognised specialists). Tarmacking is delivered by trusted external partners.


The Opportunity


Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll oversee 3–4 live schemes concurrently, taking full commercial ownership under bespoke commercial contracts (not a pure NEC/JCT environment). Projects typically run for ~2 years (some up to 10 years), spanning a balanced portfolio of private and social housing sites infrastructure packages.


Key Responsibilities


  • Full pre- and post-contract QS duties across multiple residential infrastructure schemes
  • Measurement, take-offs and bills; procurement & subcontract management (tenders, comparisons, orders)
  • CVRs, monthly valuations, applications, variations and final accounts
  • Forecasting, cashflow and cost control; risk & opportunity management
  • Relationship management with clients, site teams and the supply chain
  • Maintain robust records and compliance with company procedures and client requirements


About You


  • Quantity Surveyor with 4–5+ years’ experience in civil engineering/groundworks for housebuilding — (roads & sewers, plot works, earthworks) preferred but open to other backgrounds across the built environment with proven QS skills
  • Confident working with bespoke contracts and their commercial mechanisms
  • Strong numeracy, Excel and reporting skills; familiarity with industry QS systems (e.g., COINS/Causeway/equivalent)
  • Highly organised, calm under pressure, comfortable prioritising across several sites
  • Full UK driving licence and comfortable with occasional site travel
  • You will be working within a large Commercial team a mix of SQS, Qs and Assistants


Working Pattern


  • Mon: 08:30–17:00
  • Tue: 08:30–16:00
  • Wed: 08:30–17:00
  • Thu: 08:30–16:00
  • Fri: 08:30–15:30


  • Note: This role is office-based with no home working (occasional site visits only).
