Job Title: Site or Senior Site Engineer (Civil Engineering Main Contractor)
Location: Office West Yorkshire (projects across the Yorkshire region only)

The company
This is a principal contractor operating solely across Yorkshire, delivering design-and-build infrastructure and public realm projects. Typical work includes:
- New highway schemes and road adaptations
- Cycle paths, tow paths and footpaths
- Bridges and other structures (including large retaining walls)
- Major drainage and flood alleviation schemes
- Public realm and streetscape improvements
Schemes are delivered across the Yorkshire region—typically within the area bounded by Harrogate, York, Hull, Sheffield, and Halifax Current and secured work into 2026 includes projects in and around Huddersfield, Brighouse, Elland, Bradford, Halifax, Barnsley, Sheffield, Kirklees, Scunthorpe, Hull and Rotherham.
The role
As Site / Senior Site Engineer, you’ll take ownership of setting out and engineering control on live projects, as well as supporting the site team with quality and technical paperwork.
Working closely with the Site Agent and Site Manager, you will:
- Carry out accurate setting out and surveying for roads, drainage, structures and public realm works
- Check and interpret construction drawings, raising technical queries and completing clash checks where required
- Produce as-built surveys and records for handover and final account purposes
- Prepare and review method statements and risk assessments (RAMS), helping to ensure safe systems of work are implemented on site
- Lead by example on Health, Safety and Environmental standards, maintaining tidy, compliant sites
- Maintain accurate site records, diaries and key QA documentation (inspection and test plans, check sheets, etc.)
- Support short-term planning: providing engineering input into weekly and look-ahead programmes and planning setting out in advance of follow-on trades
- Check material deliveries, support basic take-offs and help track quantities against design and budget
- Identify and report any defects, providing technical input into solutions and corrective actions
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors and utilities in a professional manner, representing the business positively on site
Senior Engineers will additionally mentor junior engineers / trainees and may take a lead role on more complex schemes.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a capable, hands-on Engineer who enjoys being out on site and takes pride in getting the job built right first time.
Essential:
- Civil engineering qualification – HNC/HND or Degree (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience delivering civil engineering projects – ideally highways, drainage, structures or similar, typically in the £50k–£5m+ range
- Strong setting out and surveying skills, confident using modern instruments and able to carry out your own checks
- Good understanding of drawings, specifications and basic engineering principles
- Solid appreciation of site H&S and environmental best practice and how RAMS translate into safe methods of work
- Competent IT skills, including basic CAD and experience with standard MS Office tools
- CSCS card and full UK driving licence

- Professional, open and approachable manner – able to communicate well with operatives, management and clients alike
- Able to stay focused under pressure and manage time to meet programme milestones
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
