Site Engineer / Senior Site Engineer (Civil Regional contractor) — Permanent

Location: North East (projects northumerland to Teesside)

Sector: General Civils | Employer: Regional main contractor

The opportunity

We’re hiring a hands-on, solutions-driven Site or Senior Site Engineer to lead engineering delivery across one or more live civils sites. You’ll take ownership of setting-out and technical controls, steer quality and records, and work closely with delivery and commercial teams to ensure safe, efficient, right-first-time outcomes. If you enjoy mentoring others and adding value beyond the drawings, this is for you.

What you’ll do

  • Setting out & control: Carry out precise setting out using total station and GNSS/GPS; manage control points, calibrations and checks.
  • Engineering delivery: Fulfil the full engineer’s remit—QA records, ITPs, inspection/test evidence, materials measurement, as-built surveys and red-lines.
  • Commercial interface: Quantify materials, raise material requisitions, support reconciliation and variations; collaborate with the QS/commercial team.
  • Documentation & handover: Compile O&M manuals, data sheets and as-builts ready for client handover.
  • Value engineering: Proactively spot efficiencies in method, tolerances, temporary works and sequencing.
  • Digital delivery: Keep accurate site diaries and records; IT-literate with common engineering and document-management tools.
  • Leadership & supervision: Mentor junior engineers/chainmen; flex into site supervision/management when required.
  • Multi-site coverage: Plan and prioritise workloads to oversee engineering across multiple sites when needed.
  • Safety & quality: Lead by example on H&S and quality standards at all times.

What you’ll bring

  • Capable standalone civil engineer with experience with a main contractor or civils subcontractor.
  • Strong setting-out capability with total station and GPS; modelling experience (e.g., ground models/3D surfaces) is advantageous.
  • Proven track record producing QA/ITP records, as-builts, O&M inputs, and robust measurement.
  • Confident working with AutoCAD and preferably LSS/Civil 3D (or similar).
  • Demonstrable continuous professional development and a desire to teach/develop others.
  • Able to adapt between the technical role and day-to-day site supervision/management.
  • HNC (minimum) in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Appropriate CSCS card and other role-relevant tickets (e.g., SMSTS/SSSTS, First Aid) or willingness to obtain.
  • Full UK driving licence.

What’s on offer

  • Very competitive salary (DOE)
  • Car/allowance, pension and standard industry benefits
  • Ongoing CPD and progression (genuine scope to step up)
  • Stable local/regional workload with limited staying away
