Site / Senior Site Engineer (Main Contractor) – North East (Multi-Site Setting Out)

Base: North East (projects currently span Hexham to Darlington)

The Opportunity

A long-established North East building contractor with a strong pipeline across new-build retail, education, office and large residential (student accommodation/blocks of flats) is looking to appoint a Site or Senior Site Engineer. You’ll rotate across several live schemes during the week, taking ownership of setting-out, QA and survey deliverables to keep programmes on track.

This is a great step for an experienced Engineer who enjoys variety, autonomy and the chance to influence build quality across multiple sites.

What you’ll do

• Setting out & surveying: Establish control, set levels and grids, and carry out precise layout using robotic total stations (Leica/Trimble or similar) and GNSS where required.
• QA & records: ITPs, as-built surveys, hold-point inspections, concrete pour sign-offs, red-line drawings and daily site diaries.
• Coordination: Work with Site Managers, supply chain and design teams to resolve queries, sequence works and safeguard programme and quality.
• Temporary works & safety: Interface with TWC/TWDs, ensure permits and RAMS are in place, champion safe systems of work.
• Technical support: Materials take-offs, drawing checks, RFI generation, utilities/groundworks interfaces (drainage, foundations, slab/RC/steel, externals/kerbs).

What we’re looking for

• 4+ years’ setting-out experience in building/civils with a main contractor or similar.
• Proficient with robotic total stations (ideally with data capture/as-built workflows) and comfortable with AutoCAD for offsets and as-builts.
• HND or higher in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• CSCS card and SSSTS or SMSTS (or willingness to obtain).
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites (current footprint from Hexham to Darlington).
• Solid understanding of build sequence, tolerances and quality for retail, education, office and multi-residential projects.
