Project Manager – Civil Engineering

Location: Yorkshire, with potential travel into North Derbyshire / North Nottinghamshire

Employment Type: Permanent

Salary: Competitive package, dependent on experience

Sector: Civil Engineering / Infrastructure / Utilities

Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established civil engineering contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of civil engineering projects across Yorkshire and surrounding regions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Project Manager with a strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, water, wastewater, highways, drainage, public realm or general civils schemes.

The role would suit someone who is commercially aware, contractually astute and confident managing projects from early planning stages through to delivery, handover and final account.

The position will involve managing site-based delivery teams, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and external stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the required programme and quality standards.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful management and delivery of multiple civil engineering projects of varying size, complexity and value.

You will manage internal project teams, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and external consultants while taking ownership of programme, cost, quality, risk, resources, health and safety, project reporting and stakeholder communication.

The role will also involve supporting project governance, approvals and stakeholder presentations at key stages, while ensuring projects are delivered in line with company procedures, contractual requirements, current legislation and CDM Regulations.

You will be expected to promote a positive project culture focused on safety, delivery, collaboration and continuous improvement, while providing leadership, motivation and support to project teams to ensure successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of civil engineering projects from planning stage through to handover and final account.
  • Lead internal teams, site-based delivery teams, subcontractors, suppliers and external consultants.
  • Take ownership of programme, cost, quality, risk, resources, health and safety, and project performance.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, supply chain partners and internal teams.
  • Prepare project reports covering progress, commercial position, milestones, resource requirements and programme status.
  • Manage contracts effectively, including commercial matters, change control, procurement and risk management.
  • Ensure CDM, health, safety and environmental standards are maintained across all projects.
  • Provide clear leadership, direction and support to project teams while promoting a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering civil engineering projects within a main contractor or specialist engineering contractor environment.

You should be able to demonstrate proven experience managing civil engineering projects, strong commercial awareness, good contractual understanding and the ability to manage project scope, programme, resources, quality, risk and change.

Strong leadership, communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.

A good understanding of CDM Regulations, health and safety, environmental standards and project governance will be important, as will a full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across regional sites.

Experience within water, wastewater, clean water, utilities or infrastructure projects would be advantageous, although candidates from wider civil engineering backgrounds will also be considered.

A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline would be beneficial, but strong practical project delivery experience will be equally valued.

Relevant Tickets / Qualifications

Candidates may hold, or be working towards, tickets such as SMSTS, CSCS, Temporary Works Co-ordinator, First Aid at Work, Streetworks Supervisor, Confined Spaces, Appointed Person, CAT & Genny, Asbestos Awareness, Environmental Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Height or Safety Passport.

The Opportunity

This is a strong long-term opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager seeking a regional role with a secure workload across Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

You will be joining a respected contractor with a healthy pipeline of work, offering the chance to take ownership of varied civil engineering schemes while working with experienced operational and commercial teams.
