Quantity Surveyor (Permanent) — Gateshead
The opportunity
Join a well-established, fast-growing marine & civil engineering contractor with a healthy forward pipeline and a busy portfolio of quay, jetty, harbour and wider infrastructure schemes across the UK. You’ll be primarily office-based in Gateshead with occasional site visits in and out of the region, working alongside an experienced commercial team that will invest in your development.
Who we’re looking for
-
2–3+ years’ post-degree experience in Quantity Surveying (BSc/MSc).
- Ideally exposure to NEC3/NEC4 (Option A/C/E etc.); equally open to someone bright and committed who can pick this up quickly.
- A genuine interest in, or desire to move into, civil engineering and marine infrastructure (quays, jetties, sea walls, RC structures, piling, D&B).
- Confident communicator who enjoys collaborating with project managers, site teams, supply chain and clients.
- Solid grasp of measurement, valuations, change control, and cost reporting; strong Excel skills.
What you’ll be doing
- Manage commercial duties across live projects (typically NEC): subcontract procurement, contract administration, CEs/compensation events, programme-linked assessments, interim valuations and final accounts.
- Lead cost forecasting, CVRs and monthly reporting with the Commercial Manager.
- Maintain robust change management and risk registers, ensuring records are watertight.
- Support tendering/estimating and supply-chain engagement for upcoming works.
- Make periodic site visits for measures, progress checks and stakeholder liaison.
What you’ll gain
- Exposure to technically interesting schemes (quay construction & upgrades, jetty and fendering works, RC and piling, coastal/flood defence and non-marine civils).
- A supportive, close-knit team with access to senior mentors and clear progression routes.
- A stable business with a strong order book and repeat work with blue-chip clients.
- Professional development: CPD, structured learning around NEC, and encouragement toward chartership.
- Modern office environment in Gateshead with sensible travel expectations.
Essentials
- Right to work in the UK and a full UK driving licence.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying (or closely related).
- Willingness to travel for short site visits when required.
Nice to have
- NEC3/NEC4 project experience (contractor-side preferred).
- Experience on marine/coastal or heavy civil engineering projects.
- Familiarity with design-and-build and early contractor involvement environments.
