Senior Quantity Surveyor (or strong QS ready to step up)
Sector: Contractor-led, multi-disciplinary infrastructure (rail, water, highways, power)
Location: UK-wide hybrid — work from home, client sites and regional hubs in the North East of England, South Wales and Central Scotland
Benefits: Pension, paid volunteer days, fully supported further education, structured training and CPD
The opportunity
Join a progressive, UK-wide team of quantity surveyors and planners delivering complex infrastructure projects for tier-one contractors and asset owners. If you enjoy the cut-and-thrust of live projects and the intellectual challenge of more contentious work (claims, EoTs, compensation events), this role offers the best of both worlds: contractor-style delivery with the breadth and variety you’d expect from a high-performing consultancy.
We’re growing and looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor (or an experienced QS ready for promotion) who brings energy, curiosity and a collaborative mindset. You’ll work across multiple frameworks and sectors, with the freedom to shape smarter ways of working and the support to keep pushing your own development.
What you’ll do
- Own the commercial lifecycle across civils packages: procurement, measurement, valuations, change control and cost forecasting.
- Lead NEC-style contract administration (and other forms where relevant), managing early warnings, compensation events and payment mechanisms with rigour.
- Prepare and defend submissions for EoT, loss-and-expense and disruption; support/lead negotiations to positive outcomes.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with project managers, planners and delivery teams — acting as a strategic partner, not just “the QS”.
- Produce clear, insightful commercial reports and dashboards that drive decisions at site and board level.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the continual improvement of our templates, processes and playbooks.
About you
- BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Solid infrastructure experience (e.g. highways, earthworks, structures, utilities, rail or water).
- Comfortable operating in contractor environments; PQS/client-side exposure a bonus — or a genuine appetite to develop it.
- Confident with NEC contracts (ECC/PSC) and contemporary change-control best practice.
- Strong communicator who enjoys collaborating and isn’t fazed by ambiguity or challenge.
- Chartership is not essential (we actively support RICS/other professional recognition and ongoing CPD).
