Title: Accounts Assistant

Reporting to: Head of Finance
Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to join a dynamic international business on a fully remote basis.
Working closely with the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will provide day-to-day support across accounts payable, reconciliations, financial administration, and reporting. This is a highly process-driven role that requires exceptional accuracy, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting strict deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience working with cloud-based accounting systems, possess excellent written communication skills, and enjoy working within a structured, fast-paced finance environment. This role also offers genuine opportunities for growth as the finance function continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process supplier and contractor invoices from receipt through to payment
- Verify invoices against contracts and supporting documentation
- Ensure accurate coding and allocation of expenses within the accounting system
- Prepare weekly supplier payment runs for review and approval
- Respond to internal and external accounts payable queries in a professional and timely manner
- Assist with raising customer invoices and credit notes when required
Financial Processing & Reconciliations
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are accurately matched and coded
- Maintain accurate financial records across accounting and internal business systems
- Assist with quarterly VAT reconciliations and supporting documentation
- Support budget monitoring and variance analysis
- Ensure all financial information remains accurate and up to date
Reporting & Financial Controls
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
- Prepare monthly sales commission calculations and supporting schedules
- Identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and resolve financial queries
- Escalate financial issues where appropriate and recommend process improvements
- Ensure financial records are audit-ready and compliant with internal controls
Systems & Administration
- Maintain accurate records within the accounting platform and internal CRM system
- Follow established financial processes and internal procedures
- Support the continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
- Work closely with operational teams to resolve finance-related queries
- Assist with ad hoc finance and administrative projects as required
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or equivalent practical experience
- Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable, Bookkeeping, or similar finance role
- Experience working with Xero or a comparable cloud-based accounting system
- Strong numerical ability and exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent written English communication skills
- Highly organised with the ability to manage recurring tasks independently
- Comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet recurring deadlines
Advantageous
- Previous experience working within a UK-based accounting environment
- Knowledge of UK VAT regulations and reporting
- Experience within a service-based, events, or professional services environment
- Exposure to CRM or integrated business management systems
