Job Title: Head Ranger

Location: Private Game Reserve, Eastern Cape (approximately 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth)

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Head Ranger to join a well-established, luxury game reserve in the Eastern Cape.

The successful candidate will lead the guiding team, ensuring guests enjoy exceptional and informative safari experiences that reflect the reserve’s high standards of service, professionalism, and conservation values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, motivate, and manage the team of field guides and trackers.
• Conduct guided game drives and bush walks, ensuring safe, educational, and memorable guest experiences.
• Deliver outstanding guest interaction and hosting in line with a 4- and 5-star standard.
• Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance, ensuring all guiding assets are well cared for.
• Ensure full compliance with FGASA and reserve regulations, safety standards, and conservation policies.
• Train, mentor, and support junior guides in their professional development.
• Coordinate with lodge management to ensure seamless operations and guest satisfaction.
• Uphold the reserve’s commitment to conservation, sustainability, and community engagement.

Requirements:

• Trails Guide qualification (essential).
• Minimum 3–5 years of guiding experience, preferably within a Big Five game reserve.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and guest relations abilities.
• Strong knowledge of local wildlife, ecology, and conservation practices.
• Valid driver’s license and PDP.
• Rifle proficiency and all required DEAT/FGASA registrations.
