Formal schooling / degree:
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
A Diploma/ Degree in Operations Management is essential.
Experience:
At Least 10 Years’ experience in high- volume diverse manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years at a Senior Management level.
Experience within a Precision Engineering Facility highly advantageous
Languages:
English and Afrikaans
JOB OBJECTIVE(S):
o Operational Excellence: Direct entire manufacturing functions to drive cost-effective operations, full P&L accountability and optimal resource utilisation across direct
labour and materials.
o Strategic Alignment: Oversee production planning to seamlessly synchronize manufacturing outputs with sales forecasts, supply chain strategies and customer demand.
o Performance & Throughput: Maximize throughput and maintain rigorous quality standards to consistently achieve or exceed the company sales plan.
o Leadership & Safety: Develop high-performing direct reports applying innovative production principles while championing a proactive, zero-harm safety culture. Factory
size : 50 workers
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Production Planning:
o Translate the Sales Plan into dynamic capacity plans, maximizing resources across all departments
o Direct the development and execution of production schedules tailored to each production department coming together to support the overall Master Production Plan.
o Develop strategies to increase capacity where required.
o Champion strict ERP compliance to ensure data accuracy and process compliance
o Streamline pre-production workflows to ensure prompt release of production orders
Production:
o Map and master the manufacturing capabilities to gain an understanding of the factory and the production flow
o Identify and resolve bottleneck constraints proactively to systematically eliminate downtime and to increase capacity
o Establish daily performance dashboards to enable Management by Exception, to streamline decision making and highlight critical operational needs
o Mentor and coach the operations team
o Drive a disciplined approach throughout the factory focusing on productivity, quality, reduction of waste (i.e. First time right, Lean and other WCM methodologies)
o Research and adapt manufacturing best-practises and introduce relevant / tailored practices to meet the company’s needs
o Initiate and launch continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to improve morale, productivity and reduce waste
o Optimise the headcount allocation ensuring production is achieved with minimal labour cost
o Maximise material yield through actively focusing on the scrap, rework and material variances tracking
Stores:
o Oversee Raw Material, Work-in-process and Finished Goods store.
o Ensuring strict adherence to the ERP System to improve accuracy and data lag
o Ensuring accurate inventory management and stock integrity
Compliance
o Full compliance with OHS and Company Policies in line with (ISO45001, ISO9001 and implementation of ISO14001)
o Ensure strict adherence to the Explosive Act (relevant to the Final Assembly Area)
o Collaborate with all other Executive to ensure full compliance to Statutory, Company and Group regulations
Other Areas:
o Financial – Formulate and manage operational budgets and exercise strict cost control
o Lead, coach and develop direct subordinates
o Instil accountability and performance management
o Foster a culture of Teamwork, discipline and continuous improvement
o Champion specialised training initiatives to bridge critical skills gaps and ensure sustainability the factory
o Collaborate with the Executive team to develop strategic operational goals.
