Financial Accounting Manager

Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accounting Manager to join a dynamic luxury travel and tourism business based in Cape Town.
This role will work closely with and support the Financial Manager in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting reporting and compliance requirements.
The successful candidate will take ownership of key accounting functions, supplier management, reconciliations, and financial administration while assisting with month-end reporting, VAT processes, and operational finance activities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys a hands-on environment and is looking to further develop their management accounting and financial reporting experience within a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting and bookkeeping activities across the business
- Process and review supplier invoices, journals, receipts, and payments
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Prepare and maintain financial schedules and reconciliations
- Support the Financial Manager with management reporting and financial analysis
- Monitor deposits, prepayments, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations
Accounts Payable & Supplier Management
- Oversee the accounts payable function and ensure timely supplier payments
- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers
- Ensure supplier accounts are accurately maintained and up to date
- Monitor outstanding payments and assist with cash flow planning
Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform and review daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations
- Reconcile Tourplan bookings against supplier invoices and charges
- Assist with VAT reconciliations and submissions
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Identify process improvement opportunities and support the implementation of enhanced controls
Systems, Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate records across accounting and operational systems
- Ensure all financial documentation is correctly filed and easily accessible
- Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as required
- Support compliance with statutory and regulatory financial requirements
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate financial processing
- Provide support on finance-related projects and ad hoc reporting requirements
Team Support & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a key support to the Financial Manager across finance operations
- Assist with training and guidance of junior finance staff where required
- Collaborate with operational departments to resolve financial queries
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 4–6 years’ experience within an accounting, bookkeeping, or finance role
- Previous experience within the travel, tourism, hospitality, or service-based industry advantageous
- Experience working with Xero or similar accounting systems advantageous
- Strong Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills
- Experience managing reconciliations, accounts payable, and month-end processes
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines effectively
