Consultant (Data Assurance, Risk and Controls)

Relevant Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in data assurance, data risk, or data controls within financial services, ideally gained in a consulting, internal audit, or second-line risk environment.
  • Prior exposure to large-scale customer redress or remediation programmes, preferably in the context of FCA-regulated firms, consumer credit, or motor finance.
  • Experience reviewing and challenging the design and implementation of methodologies for defining in-scope customer populations and calculating redress or compensation amounts.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape around the FCA's approach to redress, treating customers fairly, and conduct risk in consumer lending.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end data flows, source systems, and data transformations, with the ability to trace data from origination through to scoping and calculation outputs.
  • Ability to assess completeness and accuracy of data sources and flows, including assessing the accuracy of implemented logic/rules, joins and reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to identify data and technology risks and assess the design and operating effectiveness of associated controls and mitigations.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, including data quality, data lineage, data ownership, and change management disciplines.
  • Experience applying or working within established risk and control frameworks (e.g. COSO, three lines of defence) to evaluate programme-level controls.
  • Comfortable working with large and complex data sets and technology architectures and able to engage credibly with technical data teams and programme SMEs.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Strong report-writing skills, with the ability to articulate findings, risks, and recommendations clearly and concisely for senior management and board-level audiences.
  • Confident and credible in client-facing situations, including leading walkthroughs, facilitating meetings, and presenting conclusions to senior client stakeholders.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships quickly, manage expectations, and navigate sensitive conversations in a regulatory or remediation context.
  • A collaborative approach, with the judgement to escalate issues appropriately and contribute constructively within a wider engagement team.
